My Schmidt-Cassegrain objective lens has accumulated a lot of dust and unfortunately someone got fingerprints on it. How do I properly clean it without scratching the lens. The scope is a Celestron NexStar 8se.

In a word: DON’T! There are many more dangers involved in cleaning telescope optics than the side effects of leaving them dirty. Cleaning the corrector plate in a Schmidt-Cassegrain is particularly difficult because it will require disassembly of the telescope followed by reassembly with the corrector in _exactly_ the same orientation as before. This is something I would leave to a professional. The safest thing would be to return it to Celestron for cleaning.
